Cuba is a turbulent nation having suffered through colonization, slavery, loss of national identity, militaristic dictators, many regime changes and huge political problems, many of which have been played out in the media. Through it all, they have created some of the most amazingly beautiful graphic images for posters, stamps, billboards and even paper money. The term propaganda conjures up horrible ideas of its implicit meaning, but this book illustrates the many uses, both good and bad, of such graphic power.
The other important distinction with this book is it's ability to capture the beauty and power of Cuba's graphic arts while providing a backdrop of political and social history to explain these pieces existences a lives in the social context.
